About this place
With their appetising char and smoky aroma, grilled skewers make an easy first order for a relaxed meal. At Tokyo Kushiyaki Kurabu Shakujii-koen-ten, the affordable selection ranges from familiar chicken negima and thigh skewers to wings and less common cuts such as hatsumoto. Chicken skewers come with a choice of salt or sauce, while the grilled pork menu includes kashira, skirt and white liver. If you can’t decide, start with the 5-skewer assortment or the grilled pork platter.
There is plenty to order alongside the skewers, too. The low-temperature-cooked pork sashimi selection includes tongue with a spring onion, salt and lemon sauce, liver with garlic sesame oil, and yukhoe; the 3-item platter is a good way to compare them. Slow-simmered house-made offal stew and beef tendon stew add comforting options, while the mille-feuille cheese ham cutlet is praised for its crisp coating and melting cheese. These fried and simmered dishes make a generous spread of snacks to accompany drinks.
The drinks list offers plenty of choice, from Sapporo draft beer and large bottles of Lager Akaboshi to frozen lemon sours, Hoppy sets and regional sake from around Japan. To finish the meal, there are grilled rice balls, chicken soboro rice and sauce yakisoba. Open from the morning, the restaurant suits an early daytime drink as well as a casual stop after work.
